We’re thrilled to wrap up a transformative November with the successful hosting of three online workshops under our Nothing About Us Without Us (NAUWU) initiative. This groundbreaking series, born from the community voices in the NAUWU Maternity report, empowers women of African heritage and their families by centering Black voices in maternal health conversations. By providing culturally safe, evidence-based education led by community experts, NAUWU aims to addresses systemic inequities in maternity care—ensuring that Black maternal experiences are not just heard, but actioned for real equity and better outcomes.
These workshops drew enthusiastic participation, fostering open dialogues and sparking vital discussions on often-overlooked aspects of reproductive health. Here’s a quick recap of our empowering sessions:
- Before the Bump: A Pre-Pregnancy Planning Masterclass (November 8) – Participants gained practical tools for proactive health planning, setting a strong foundation for safe pregnancies.
- Labour Pains Uncovered: Your Pain Relief Options Demystified (November 15) – We unpacked myths and options for managing labour pain, promoting informed choices and reducing fear.
- Breaking the Silence: Fibroids, Endometriosis & Pregnancy (November 22) – This session shone a light on these common yet under-discussed conditions, offering insights into their impact on maternal journeys.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us—your energy and stories made these events a resounding success! If you missed out or want to revisit the wisdom shared, all recordings are now available to watch online here. Dive in, share with your networks, and keep the momentum going.
Looking ahead, we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for more NAUWU workshops in 2026, building on this foundation to drive even greater change in Black maternal equity.
