Our Vision

Our vision is a world where women of African heritage are not just free from violence and invisibility, but fully empowered to lead, heal, and thrive.

Our Mission

To disrupt the status quo by advocating for systemic change to promote gender and racial equity. We do this by lobbying for better policies, developing community-rooted research, and fostering resilience through intergenerational connection and care.

Our work is rooted in empowering women of African heritage to maximise their wellbeing while building bridges across communities and institutions, both in Scotland and globally

What Do We Do

Lobbying & Advocacy

 We engage stakeholders including Government, Policy makers, Health & Social care and Educational institutions on issues that impact communities of African heritage in Scotland.

Our Values

Guided by Black feminist principles and values—Ubuntu, dignity, Black joy, collective care, and self-determination—KWISA builds spaces for healing and transformation. Our work is intergenerational and collaborative

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is the African philosophy that emphasises our shared humanity, interconnectedness, and the belief that “I am because we are.” It embodies compassion, mutual care, and collective responsibility, recognising that our well-being is tied to the well-being of others. At KWISA, Ubuntu is a guiding value that shapes our approach to community building, advocacy, and
collaboration. It reminds us to honor the dignity of every individual while fostering solidarity and uplifting women and girls of African heritage as we work together towards justice and equity.

Black Joy

Black joy is the celebration of the resilience, creativity, and beauty of Black people, rooted in the affirmation of culture, heritage, and shared experiences. It transcends adversity, fostering community, healing, and empowerment, while honoring the fullness of Black life in all its diversity. At KWISA, Black joy is a core value that drives our commitment to uplifting voices,
nurturing belonging, and creating spaces where women and girls of African heritage thrive unapologetically
