Faith Leaders Declaration

KWISA understands the importance of people who play a significant role in the lives of women and girls such as faith leaders, policy makers, relatives and key members of the family are involved in the campaign to stop Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
KWISA as well as other grassroots organisations campaign against FGM and other Harmful Traditional Practices (HTPs) realise that when dealing with deeply rooted beliefs and practices, change happens when the responsibility for change is owned by the whole society. it is has been noted that in countries where is faith leaders have spoken openly against FGM the prevalence rate has fallen remarkably.
On the 26th of August the campaign against FGM took a historic step which saw faith leaders, policy makers, politicians community members and representative of organisations campaigning to end FGM in Scotland gathered together to sign and witness the faith leaders declaration against FGM in Scotland.
